For those who do not know to John Lennon, a brief scenario (John Winston Lennon), 09 October 1940-08 December 1980. Born in Liverpool, England John was a member of the Beatles, a prolific composer and also had a solo career. Was shot and killed as he entered his apartment in New York. He was 40.
It's hard to believe that was 30 years after one of the signals of light shined on our conscience, and our world was off. John Lennon has touched the lives of many people with his music, his strong opinions about peace and war. He was willing to expose all parts himself good and not so good. Yet remained faithful to himself.
I was twelve years old when the Beatles came to America, and I was immediately drawn to the humor of John Lennon. He showed his intelligence in any interview. The music of the Beatles at that time was magical, and certainly lit a fire under me that isn't off to this day. I was lucky enough to see the Beatles perform live three times Thankfully I was next to the last time I saw them, and was indescribable.
John has always been the most outspoken and, at some point in 1966 had been sentenced in Italy due to stating that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Wasn't saying they were greater than Jesus, but only that their popularity extended farther. At that time was the truth. Since then he has received death threats and I was told that he would be assassinated during their tour of USA 1966. This is one of the main reasons for which the Beatles stopped performing live.
Fame was a great pressure on John, and looked for other avenues to explore after conquering the world. Discovered the LSD and used to open up to her creativity. From there he discovered the meditation and went to India to practice and learn from a master. He met Yoko Ono and fell in love, although both were married at the time. He felt Yoko was his soul mate, and have been together until the end of his life.
Have started a movement for peace and love. Got a new recognition worldwide for his peace movement and its position against all wars. He expressed his views through his music and many people have paid attention. His goal was to have people get along and follow the path of love and peace. For once John went into seclusion, but in 1980 he was making a comeback with a new album, the first in five years and ready to return to his many causes.
Unfortunately there was a man who was jealous of John fame and success and decided that he could gain fame killed John Lennon. And on a cold December night has done the unthinkable.
I was driving in my car when I heard the announcement of his death on the radio; It was surreal. I was having a nightmare? Continued changing radio channels, and the news was the same that someone had killed John cold-blooded. How could John Lennon killed senselessly? The irony of his violent death shocked the world. This man, who had delivered so many messages of love and peace, had been taken in a manner so violent; was simply unthinkable.
Rather than dwell on his murder, I want to remember everything he has done in his brief 40 years. He definitely kept me aware of what was happening in the world through his music and his peaceful demonstrations. He gave voice to the conscience that so many were feeling and unable to find words or ways of expressing. John did.
This year contains so many memories of John, because he would have turned 70 years and 30 years after his death. Ironically was killed the birthday of Jim Morrison, singer, songwriter and poet of The Doors, if he would live would be 67 years this year. So many brilliant men are gone, but their words and live music.
Every year new people discover John Lennon for the first time. In Havana, Cuba, have a wonderful bronze statue of John Lennon casually sitting on a park bench, as if he is observing those who pass. Recently a teenager in Dominican Republic asked me if I knew it was John Lennon. I just had to smile at this issue.
Worldwide, he is loved. His legacy will never be forgotten.
In my life by the Beatles
"There are places that I remember
All my life although some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With friends and lovers still I can remember
Some are dead and some live
In my life I loved everyone. "
