Many fans of the Beatles are unaware of the impact great British folk singer and guitarist Donovan (Donovan Leitch Philips) had for the Beatles and their music in 1968.
Donovan was a friend of the Beatles, and when the group traveled to Rishikesh in India to study transcendental meditation in February 1968, Donovan came along. There were several other Westerners present at the Rishikesh too, including Mike Love of the Beach Boys.
Many of the songs that later would be characterized by the Beatles ' 1968 album titled The Beatles – also known as The White Album because of its cover white-emerged during the stay of the group in India.
One reason for this was the fact that Donovan was.Between meditation classes, taught John, Paul and George a finger-style guitar special levy that can be tracked down on many of the songs on The White Album.
Take for example Blackbird Paul McCartney. was written in India, and is a great example of how guitar-technique by Donovan was applied by the Beatles. Listen as elegantly Paul collects strings and guitar as the model supports the lead vocal brilliantly.
Acoustic guitars had probably not as sophisticated as played rather than on previous Beatles recordings, maybe with a few exceptions, for example of Paul I've just seen a Face since 1965 and Lennon Girl since 1966. The Beatles were often used for acoustic rhythm guitar game-which of course has brilliantly worked-but the style of finger-picking Donovan added yet another dimension to their music.
Also, another of Paul's songs, mother nature's son, took shape in India. Also here is obvious influence of Donovan. The texts, meanwhile, you say they were influenced by a lecture given by meditation guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a central figure of the field.
Paul wasn't obviously the Beatle only who was inspired by the technique of guitar by Donovan.Just listen to the songs Julia and Dear Prudence, both wrote of John Lennon.Dear Prudence is actually on a specific incident that occurred at the meditation of Rishikesh. The song is really Prudence Farrow, sister of actress Mia Farrow, who remained even in Rishikesh. caution, however, he preferred to meditate in solitude in his cabin.Eventually Lennon and George Harrison had to convince her to come out and join the other: Dear Prudence, didn't come out and play?
Other songs written or inspires the stay in India were Lennon The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill and Sexy Sadie, besides McCartney "why don't We Do It In The Road and Wild Honey Pie.
Sexy Sadie was originally called the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, after Maharishi guru meditation. having slept in India for a while, Lennon lost confidence in Maharishi, apparently due to a rumor that guru had made sexual advances to a female member of the course. The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill was about graduate named Richard III of Cooke who visited the community of Rishikesh, because his mother that Nancy was staying there. they did go tiger hunting, as suggested by the song.
Paul McCartney said later that he had the idea of "why don't We Do It In The Road? in India, where he saw two monkeys copulating in strada. Wild Honey pie was a sing along that also emerged in Rishikesh.
The Beatle before leaving India was Ringo, who returned to London in early March. McCartney soon followed, while Lennon and Harrison left in April.
